About Us
Conifer Gardens Nursery is a family run,
third generation nursery located in Ferny Creek in the beautiful Dandenong Ranges,
45km east of Melbourne in Victoria.
The nursery started in 1954 by Jan and Jo Versteege who migrated from Holland with their three children in 1949.
In 1976 their daughter Ursela and her husband, David, took over the retail nursery and in 1984 they expanded with a ten acre property. Here they initially grew advanced stock to supply their nursery. As they further developed the site, they began to supply the wholesale and landscape trade.
In 2012 three of their sons took on the business, and currently grow more than 600 varieties of conifers ranging, from tiny miniatures to the large, fast growing screening conifers.
Our other main specialties are Japanese Maples, Magnolias, Dogwoods, Lilacs and other flowering deciduous shrubs and trees.
We are also known for our vast range of varieties of Rhododendrons and deciduous (Mollis) azaleas.
We are located approximately 45kms east of Melbourne at 256 Mt Dandenong Tourist Road, Ferny Creek in the beautiful Dandenong Ranges next to Sherbrooke Forest.
The Olinda Botanic Gardens and the tourist towns of Sassafras and Olinda are nearby with many cafes and interesting shops.
