"Copper Beech"
This stately tree is widely grown in the UK and Europe.
It forms an elegant tree with a broad rounded crown and branches to ground level.
The solid silver-grey trunk has a smooth surface.
The toothed oval leaves emerge purple in spring and slowly lose this colour in late summer before changing to a lovely light copper colour in autumn.
As the old leaves can remain on the plant over winter, this Beech is often used for hedging.
