Often called the "Purple False Holly".
During the spring, the new growth is a vibrant deep bronze-coppery purple colour.
As the leaves mature they take on a dark green holly-like appearance.
They are quite spiney and leathery in consistency.
In summer massers of highly fragrant white flowers appear.
It is a tough and versatile evergreen shrub, growing to approximately 3 metres by t 2.5 metres.
It can be used for hedging or as specimen.
