In spring, the entire shrub is covered with bright purple, hose-in-hose flowers.
It can be used to create a stunning border or low hedge.
It is used in Japanese style gardens where it is kept trimmed into round balls.
The small leaves are a good dark green colour.
It wll tolerate a sunny position if grown in rich, fertile soil.
Otherwise it is best planted in a morning sun position or in dappled shade.
