The unusual coloured flowers have a peony-form, and are pink with a white border and with deeper crimson veins.
The leaves are also unusual in that they are narrow with long point.

This is an old Japanese variety, first recorded in 1859.
It is named for the romantic hero of the early Japanese novel Tale of Genji, a prince renowned for his elegance.
