The Camellia is an extremely attractive shrub with glossy dark green leaves and flowers in white, cream, pink or red.
Camellia sasanqua and hybrid varieties are more sun-tolerant than the Camellia japonica varieties. They are also often used in espalier.
Both species can be trimmed to create formal hedges - quite stunning when in flower, but lush looking throught the year.
Camellia sasanqua start flowering in autumn, while the camellia japonica flower in winter.
