A beautiful small tree, renowned for its stunning autumn colour.
As these are usually grown by seed, variations in height, width, leaf colour and leaf sizes occur.
They can be pruned to control the size and shape.
These maples will tolerate a sunny position, but hot winds is their greatest enemy.
The colour of the purple-leafed maples will become green if grown in too much shade.
If autumn colour is important, it is best to choose a plant in autumn as colours can range from yellow to orange to red.
