Podocarpus x 'Red Gem' is a new release dwarf cultivar of the "Plum Pine".
It has very dark blue-green, short needle-like foliage.
An unusual feature is that the new growth is a maroon colour.
In winter the plant changes to a fiery orange-red colour.
It is an interesting dwarf conifer for a rockery or pot.
As it responds very well to trimming, it would make an excellent low hedge or border.
