"Prince Albert Yew"
This conifer is very rare in cultivation. It is allied to Yews but is a native of Chile.
It forms quite a tall tree in the wild, but is fairly slow growing.
With age, the purplish-brown bark begins to flake.
It is very attractive with the rich green needled foliage.
It prefers a shady, sheltered position.
It responds very well to trimming and can easily be kept as a shrub.
As it can back-bud, it is popular for bonsai.
