"Japanese Red Pine"
A beautiful pine with soft green needles which may become paler in cold winters..
The trunk can vary from straight to slightly twisted or contorted.
The flaky bark is reddish-orange when young, greyish in mature trees.
It is a very popular pine for bonsai and niwaki enthusiasts.
In Japan the Red Pine is considered the "female" pine because of its soft needles, while the Japanese Black Pine is considered the "male" pine due to its stiff, sharp needles.
