"Himalayan Pine"
Also known as Pinus griffithii, this beautiful pine creates a stunning feature in a large lawn area.
It has blue frosted needles that are remarkably long and thin and hang straight down, particularly from young twigs.
Young plants are pyramidal in shape but develop a rounded crown with age.
When grown in the open, the branches stay on the tree all the way down to the ground.
In its natural habitat, the tree can grow to a more than 20 metres, but it is usually smaller when cultivated.
The trunk is smooth and dark grey at first, but later flaking off in plates.
This pine will tolerate dry conditions, but may need protection from frosted when young.
