This is a very unusual rhododendron in that it has double, lavender-coloured flowers.
Each trumpet in the truss is double or semi-double, looking like a flower inside a flower.
The inner flower has something of the look of a crumpled tissue flower.
Each truss is very compact and can have more than ten trumpets.
It is capable of growing to approx. 3 metres.
